Map of the City and vicinity of Boston, Massachusetts from original surveys by F.G. Sidney, C.E.”  Published by J.B. Shields  119 Hanover Street, Boston, 1852.  Engraved map with original hand-coloring. Original mounting on linen with original wooden rollers. (Image: 40 x40 inches; outside dimensions with rollers 44x47 inches)

This very scarce separately issued wall map depicts Boston and the surrounding area on a scale of 1:39600. Remarkably detailed, including the names of individual property holders in the surrounding countryside.

The entire map is surrounded by a decorative border.  At the upper center are vignettes of Faneuil Hall and the State House in Boston.

In excellent condition for a wall map of this period, and very seldom seen. Only one example is listed for sale in the 28 years of “Antique Map Price Record”.

Reference: Phillips (Maps In the Library of Congress) p.# 157: Rumsey Collection # 5465.000. The Rumsey example was dissected and mounted as a case map.
