c 1827 ''United States'' - Finley

''UNITED STATES'' Philadelphia:  Anthony Finley, c. 1827.  Very fine engraved map with full original hand-coloring.(Image: 11 1/8 x 8 1/2'’)

This handsome historical map depicts the United States with states and territories named and in contrasting colors. Most of the region looks similar to today with the following exceptions: Michigan Territory (established in 1805 & statehood in 1837), The Northwest Territory (would become part of Wisconsin Territory in 1836 and Minnesota Territory in 1849), Missouri Territory (Missouri became a state in 1821, the remaining Territory would soon become part of the territories of Minnesota, Iowa, Kansas and Nebraska), and Arkansas Territory (Arkansas gained statehood & a reduced boundary in 1836).

Topographical features are depicted with major cities, towns, mountains and waterways identified.  A fine example from Finley’s scarce atlas, which was highly praised for its elegance and clarity.
