“JOHNSON’S ASIA” New York: Johnson and Ward, c. 1864. Lithographed map with original hand-coloring. (Image: 12 ½ x 15 ½’’)
This highly detailed map depicts the Asian continent with countries named and boundaries delineated. Topographical features are shown, and many cities, towns, villages, waterways, deserts and mountain ranges are identified.
The “Great Wall” of China is also clearly marked. An interesting view of Asia as it was believed to exist in the 1860’s.
