$0.00

''NORTHERN HEMISPHERE'' Edinburgh: John Thomson, c. 1817. Very fine engraved map with original hand-coloring. (Ref: Phillips #731).(Image: 19 3/4 x 20’’)

This very detailed map depicts the Northern Hemisphere with continents named and in full color and extending from the North Pole to the Equator. Topographical features are shown and major cities, mountains, deserts, islands, The Great Wall in China, and waterways are identified.  An attractive and interesting map, illustrating the still incomplete knowledge of the Polar regions and the Northwest Passage.

In the Pacific the Sandwich Islands (Hawaiian Islands) are noted with the comment ''Here Capt. Cook was killed 1779''.

In North America: Indians tribes are located throughout and recent discoveries are noted (Mackenzie, Lewis & Clark, Herne, etc.). The present-day region of Washington and Oregon is labeled ''New Georgia''

Near present-day Alaska is the note ''Remarkable rock mountains with bright Stones''. The ''Missouri River according to former conjectures'' and ''Missouri according to Capt. Lewis 1806'' are both noted.
