''KINGDOM OF SARDINIA'' Philadelphia: S. Augustus Mitchell, c. 1847.  Fine engraved map with original hand-coloring.(Image 12 1/2 x 15 3/4’’)

This historical map depicts the Kingdom of Sardinia (present-day Sardinia Island, SE France & NW Italy) with provinces named and in contrasting colors.

Topographical features are shown with cities (including Monaco, Genoa and Nice), towns and waterways identified. Railroads and major roads are delineated. A very attractive view of the region as it was known in the mid-19th century.

In 1720 Sardinia was ceded by Austria to Savoy in exchange for Sicily, after which the ruler of Savoy and Piedmont took the title of King of Sardinia.
