Printed by J. Froben and J. Petri in Basel, December 1, 1498.
Size: 290 x 203 mm – 11.5 x 8 inches
This early leaf consists of text printed in gothic letters. The capitals and versal initials are hand illuminated in red or blue.
The text on the front and a third of the back of the leaf comprise Saint Jerome’s complete prefatory exposition on the Epistles of Saint Paul. The final two thirds of the leaf beneath the exposition are the "glossa ordinaria" and the beginning (Incipit) of Nicholas De Lyra’s commentary on Paul’s Epistles.
Nicolaus de Lyra’s famous commentary,”which was later used by Luther and influenced some of his writings”, was first published with the associated biblical text in 1481.
