Original leaf from a French medieval illuminated manuscript Book of Hours. 13 lines of hand-ruled text written in Latin with dark brown ink in fine lettre bâtarde script on animal vellum with rubrics in red. Two two-line illuminated initials, nine one-line illuminated initials and one line extender in burnished gold on a red and blue ground; ¼ border (recto) in a colorful floral design on liquid gold ground.

Size: 110 x 75mm – 4.25 x 2.9 inches, from a diminutive manuscript likely written for a lady.
The two-line illuminated “D” begins the Hour of Lauds: “Deus in adiutorium…” (Incline unto my aid O God…).
The next two-line illuminated “D” begins Psalm 92 (King James 93) 1-7: “Dominus regnavit…” (The Lord hath reigned, he is clothed with beauty: the Lord is clothed with strength, and hath girded himself. For he hath established the world which shall not be moved. Thy throne is prepared from of old: thou art from everlasting. The floods have lifted up, O Lord: the floods have lifted up their voice. The floods have lifted up their waves with the noise of many waters…).
