This attractive decorative map depicts the District of Alaska in great detail.  Alaska was a District 1867 until 1912 when it became a Territory, and then a State in 1959. 

Topographical features are noted with rivers, mountains (many with elevations provided), volcanoes and bays identified.  Major towns, cities, coal mines, lighthouses and islands are located.

The insets depicts islands in the “BERING SEA”

A remarkable amount of information is conveyed on this map in addition to the image:

On the map side of the sheet is a listing for” Districts, Capes and Points, Islands, Lake, Mountains, Rivers, and Towns”, located by reference t o a grid system.

The other side of the sheet is filled with a Description of Alaska as of the census of 1890, with information on the Area, Population and Settlement, the Fur Industries, The Salmon and Other Fisheries, Mineral Wealth, and Climate, Coast and Scenery, etc.
