This early leaf consists of text printed in gothic letters. The biblical text begins The Apocalypse (Revelation) 19:8 – 20:3: “Et datum est…” (And it is granted to her that she should clothe herself with fine linen…And he said to me: Write: Blessed are they that are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith to me: These words of God are true…And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called faithful and true, and with justice doth he judge and fight…he was clothed with a garment sprinkled with blood; and his name is called, The Word Of God. And his armies that are in heaven followed him on white horses…and he hath on his garment, and on his thigh written: King Of Kings, and Lord Of Lords…and I saw an angel coming down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit, and a great chain in his hand. And he laid hold on the dragon the old serpent, which is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years…).
The central text is surrounded by Nicolaus de Lyra’s famous commentary. “This work, which was used by Luther, and influenced some of his writings” was first published with the biblical text in 1481.
