This fragment is from the Pentateuch –It includes text from the fifth book of the Hebrew Bible, Debarim (Deuteronomy) 13:24-16:2, relating to sacrifices and tithes.
The scroll was written on the hair side (Gvil) of specially prepared deerskin in a process that darkened to a browner color over the centuries. The soft parchment remains supple and legible despite centuries of use in the Synagogue.
