This historical and decorative map depicts Missouri with its counties named and in outline color. Railroads are shown with each stop noted. Topographical features are depicted and major towns, cities, land routes and water routes identified. Post Offices are also located. The insets, right, depict the “SOUTH-EAST CORNER EXTENSION”. An attractive view of the state as it existed in the 1880’s.
“Rand, McNally & Co. specialized in filling the great demand for maps & guidebooks occasioned by the westward expansion of the U. S. in the 2nd half of the 19th century... Their maps were constantly updated with new information and thus serve as an eloquent witness to the westward march of railroads, settlements, and counties as the frontier disappeared."
