Greco-Roman Red Ware Pottery

Two Handled Bowl

c. 2nd- 1st Century BC 

Height: 4.25 inches   Diameter: 6.5 inches, including handles

Ancient Hellenistic terracotta storage bowl – Greek Colonies (Magna Graecia), Hellenistic Period.

Mold made red ware pottery with two applied and grooved handles, and an inverted disc foot.. 

The deep body is embellished with three grooves turned round the circumference and a series of raised dot decorations in a linear pattern in the Megarian style.

Nicely shaped and in fine condition with no cracks and minor rim chips. The surface shows an interesting encrusted surface from burial with the dark red terracotta showing through. An excellent example of ancient utility ware pleasingly shaped and skillfully potted with thin walls.
