This map, with its highly decorative border, depicts the Territory of Washington and State of Oregon. Washington Territory is shown extending eastward and including part of present-day Montana, Idaho, Wyoming and the area which became the State of Washington (admitted 1889).
Oregon State is shown just three years after statehood. A considerable portion of the Western Territory of Dacotah is also depicted. This unusually informative map identifies mountain passes, and locates most major towns, cities, forts and water routes.
The Emigrant Route is shown and the “Unexplored” region of Oregon is noted. A very detailed view of the area as it existed when the country was engaged in the Civil War.
