(Image: 12 ¾  x 15 ¾’’)  “MISSOURI”  New York:  J. H. Colton, c. 1855.  Engraved map with original hand-coloring. Some dampstaining evident, particularly near the title.

This attractive historical map depicts Missouri with the counties named and in contrasting colors.  Topographical features are well-noted and major towns, cities, swamps, land routes, rail routes and water routes are identified.  Indian Tribes in eastern Kansas and eastern Indian Territory are also located.

The inset, upper right, depicts the “VICINITY OF ST. LOUIS”.  A highly informative view of the state as it existed prior to the Civil War.
