Written 4 May 1835 in Killarney, Ireland and posted there. The fee was 1 shilling/5 pence

In the letter a mother, Mary Hazlett, inquires of the American Consul in London about her only son, Robert Hazlett, who deserted the US Navy from the Sloop St. Louis while in New York Harbor, then rejoined at Charleston, Massachusetts in 1833. She has had no contact with her son since. 

Pre-stamps, the letter fee is marked in ink and the post date and receipt date in red ink stamp.
