This historical and decorative map depicts Louisiana with its parishes named and in outline color. Railroads are shown with each stop noted. Topographical features are also depicted and major towns, cities, islands, swamps, land routes and water routes identified. Several mills, bridges and Post Offices are also located. The inset, upper right, depicts the “VICINITY OF NEW ORLEANS” An attractive view of the state as it existed in the 1890’s.

 “Rand, McNally & Co. specialized in filling the great demand for maps & guidebooks occasioned by the westward expansion of the U. S. in the 2nd half of the 19th century... Their maps were constantly updated with new information and thus serve as an eloquent witness to the westward march of railroads, settlements, and counties as the frontier disappeared." (Crossroads of Empire, p.53). 

Original map about 120 years old, not a reproduction - in nice condition as shown in the photos.  It comes with a certificate of authenticity.
