The graphic scene from Ezekiel Chapter 37 depicts Ezekiel’s vision of the resurrection of dry bones, foreshadowing the deliverance of the people of Israel from their captivity. “Ye dry bones, hear the word of the Lord. Thus saith the Lord God to these bones: Behold, I will send spirit into you and you shall live…All these bones are the house of Israel…you shall live, and I shall make you rest upon your own land…” Ezekiel 37

The scene is surrounded by an elaborate baroque strapwork border.

Jost Amman (born in Zurich 1539, died Nuremberg 1591) was an important Renaissance artist and engraver, best known for his expressive woodcut engravings. His workshop was established in Nuremberg in 1560 (Ref: Benezit).
