In purpose and format, printed Books of Hours followed the older manuscript examples. The more luxurious were printed on vellum.

The one-line illuminated “T” continues Psalm 95 (King James 96) 8-13: “Tollite hostias…” (Bring up sacrifices, and come into his courts: Adore ye the Lord in his holy court.  Let all the earth be moved at his presence…He shall judge the world with justice, and the people with his truth).

The two-line illuminated “D” begins Psalm 96 (KJ 97) complete: “Dominus regnavit…” (The Lord hath reigned, let the earth rejoice: let many islands be glad…Rejoice, ye just, in the Lord: and give praise to the remembrance of his holiness).

The two-line illuminated “C” begins Psalm 97 (KJ 98) 1-3: “Cantate…” (Sing ye to the Lord a new canticle: because he hath done wonderful things. His right hand hath wrought for him salvation, and his arm is holy…).
