IM-13679: Original leaf from a large illuminated manuscript Spanish Antiphonal on animal parchment. Five lines of music on a five-line stave. The manuscript text was beautifully executed by hand in dark brown ink in large gothic hand.

One illuminated initial "A" in red with gold penwork, surrounded by a floral motif with an ink portrait of a man’s face turned towards the initial while singing; one large (4.25x5 inches) knot-work or cadel initial surrounded by fruit, leaves and berries with a crowned head at the bottom of the initial, and a mythical winged figure with human head extending from the top of the initial.
This leaf continues the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul. The illuminated “A” begins “Alleluia”. The inhabited knot-work initial “T” begins Matthew 16:18: “Tu es Petrus…” (You are Peter, and upon this rock I will build [my church]).
Antiphonals contain chants for the canonical hours of the Divine Office: 1st vespers or vigil of great feasts, matins, lauds, prime, terce, sext, none, vespers & compline.
Attractive leaf with obvious devotional wear and four areas of thinning or loss due to corrosive ink.
