IM-11889: Original medieval illuminated manuscript Book of Hours leaf. 25 lines of text, ruled in red, written in Latin in angular gothic book-hand script on animal vellum, on both sides of the leaf.
There are two two-line illuminated initials in blue and white on gold ground; five illuminated one-line initials and three illuminated line-extenders in gold on a red or blue ground. Unusual vibrant and elaborate panel borders in colorful floral and gemstone motif, evocative of medieval jewelry, on a gold or rich sable ground.

The one-line illuminated “E” begins Psalm 7: 14-18: “Et in…” (And in it he hath prepared the instruments of death…I will give glory to the Lord according to his justice: and will sing to the name of the Lord the most high)).
The nine lessons from Job contain moving readings from Job detailing the trials he endured in his struggle for God’s blessings. The two-line illuminated “P” begins Lesson I - Job 7:16-21: “Parce…” (Spare me for my days are nothing…). The two-line illuminated “T” begins Lesson II – Job 10: 1-7: “Tedet…” (My soul is weary of my life…).
Very fine, lavishly illuminated leaf from a deluxe book of hours. The style and execution of miniature paintings in the parent manuscript were closely related to the Master of the Geneva Latini (see Walter 224 & 233 for examples).
This Book of Hours leaf was scribed circa 1490-1510. This is a beautiful and highly ornamental original, about 525 years old, not a reproduction. The illumination and calligraphy are skillfully executed and the leaf is in very nice antiquarian condition with bright colors and gold. . It comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.
