IM-13589:  Original leaf from a medieval illuminated  manuscript Book of Hours. 25 lines, of red-ruled Latin in dark brown ink, written in fine gothic script on animal vellum with rubrics in blue.

One two-line illuminated initial in sepia and gold on a blue ground with white pen-work; fifteen one-line illuminated initials and twelve illuminated line-extenders (four in branch-like forms) in gold on alternating blue, red and sepia ground with gold highlights.

France, c. 1460.

The one-line gold “E” begins Psalm 44 (King James 45) 12-18: “Et concupiscent…” (And the king shall greatly desire thy beauty; for he is the Lord thy God, and him they shall adore. And the daughters of Tyree with gifts, yea, all the rich among the people shall entreat thy countenance…).

The two-line illuminated “D” begins Psalm 45 (KJ 46) 1-8: “Deus noster…” (Our God is our refuge and strength: a helper in troubles, which have found us exceedingly. Therefore we will not fear, when the earth shall be troubled; and the mountains shall be removed into the heart of the sea. Their waters roared and were troubled: the mountains were troubled with this strength. The stream of the river maketh the city of God joyful: the most High hath sanctified his own tabernacle. God is in the midst thereof, it shall not be moved: God will help it in the morning early. Nations were troubled, and kingdoms were bowed down: he uttered his voice, the earth trembled…).
