This map depicts Pennsylvania in great detail. Rail routes are identified and are shown throughout the state with each stop noted. Counties are named and in contrasting color. Topographical features are shown and major land routes, water routes, mountains, cities and towns are identified. Post offices and mills are also located.
“Rand, McNally & Co. specialized in filling the great demand for maps & guidebooks occasioned by the westward expansion of the U. S. in the 2nd half of the 19 the century... Their maps were constantly updated with new information and thus serve as an elequent witnessto the westward march of railroads, settlements, and counties as the frontier disappeared." (Crossroads of Empire, p.53).
Original about 120 years old, not a reproduction, in nice condition as shown in the photos.
