This very detailed map shows Chicago with its wards numbered and in contrasting colors. Published less than one year after the Great Fire (occurring October, 1871), which destroyed more than half the city. The region shaded in pink shows the massive area consumed by the devastating fire.

Major streets, parks, depots, cemeteries, and railroads are identified. By 1870 Chicago boasted over 360,000 in population.
