A very scarce map: unusual to find a folding map such as this in good condition – usually they were well used by the tourists, discarded or left in poor condition.
This striking map of Nantucket Island was reissued as a promotional item in a tourist guide by the Old Colony Line (owner of the Old Colony Rail Road, Boston and Nantasket Steamship Line, and the Fall River Line). It is based on the famous 1869 map by Rev F.C. Ewer, with updated information. The historical events have been updated to 1886 when cable communication with Nantucket was established by the US Signal Corps.
