Augustus Mitchell, dated 1860 in the lower margin and published in the 1862 edition of Mitchell's New General Atlas.  A beautiful example of this very informative original map with exceptionally bright original hand coloring. (Image: 13 ¼ x 21 ¼’’) 

This detailed historical map depicts the region with countries, states/provinces in contrasting pastel colors.  A considerable portion of the southern portion of the United States is shown – including Indian Territory, and the Territory of New Mexicoextending from Texas to California.

Topographical features are shown, and major towns, cities, railroads, water routes, mountain passes and land routes identified. Distances are also provided between major cities.

The insets show maps of the “…BERMUDA ISLANDS”, “…PANAMA RAILROAD”, “…CUBA” and “JAMAICA”.  A highly informative and attractive view of the area during the American Civil War.
