c 1870 "Plan of New Orleans" - Mitchell

$175.00

“PLAN OF NEW ORLEANS”  Philadelphia:  S. Augustus Mitchell Jr., c. 1870.  Engraved map with original hand-coloring. (Image: 9 ¼ x 11’’)

This map depicts the strategically important City of New Orleans with many streets named.  Levees, railroads, squares and several buildings are also identified.

Capt. Bienville established New Orleans on the east bank of the lower Mississippi in 1718.  It was called the “Crescent City” because it was built on a bend of the river (as seen on this map).  A very detailed and attractive view of the city shortly after the Civil War.
