"Morse's Map of Illinois" 1854 - Scarce Separately issued map

$0.00

“Morse’s MAP of Illinois.” Chicago: Rufus Blanchard, c. 1854. Engraved map with original hand-coloring. Map with folds as issued. It is in remarkably good condition for a map intended to be folded and unfolded repeatedly. There are a few closed tears in the margin, and two small holes near the “I” in “Lake Michigan”. (Image : 28x20‘‘)

This very scarce map was a separately issued folded map.  Counties are named and in contrasting colors.  Topographical features are shown, and major cities, towns, canals and railroads (existing and proposed) are located.

The map provides a Table of Statistics, and a statement of the Meridians and Base Lines used in the surveying for the map. The vignette top center depicts a train, and top right an eagle with the U.S. shield.
