Very scarce original map – separately issued. Color-printed map with original color. A few closed tears at folds, and two small holes filled lower right (at image of Loring Pass).

This scarce map is in unusually good condition!! These separately issued city maps were intended to be well used - continually folded and unfolded.  As a result, most which survive are in very poor condition.

This detailed map depicts the City of Minneapolis with the wards outlined in red and streets, parks, railroads, waterways and cemeteries located. Major buildings are also identified including the “M. St. P. & S. Ste. M. [Railroad] Car and Machine Shops”, State University, [Railroad] Car Shop Grounds, and a stamped hand pointing to the location of the Guaranty Loan Company. Surrounding the map are pictures of several major buildings and parks.

The Guaranty Loan Building (built by Louis Menage) opened in 1890. It was the first skyscraper west of Chicago—twelve stories of red granite and lacy wrought iron, with an interior atrium that was one of the marvels of the design world. Its greatest glory was its twelfth floor, which contained a public as well as several private dining rooms, separate cafés for ladies and gents, billiards and smoking rooms, and a rooftop pavilion filled with potted palms, planting beds, and floral bowers.
