This map, with its highly ornate border, depicts the State of Maine with its counties in contrasting colors and topographical features shown. Major cities, towns, rail, land routes and water routes are shown.

The ''Boundary according to the Ashburton & Webster Treaty of 1842'' is noted along the northwest boundary.

The inset shows the “PORTLAND HAR. AND VICINITY” identifying rail lines, neighboring towns, and islands in Casco Bay. A very detailed view of the state when the country was engaged in the Civil War.
