$0.00

“MEXICO & TEXAS” J. Archer. London: Published in Gilbert’s Modern Atlas, Gratton & Gilbert, c. 1841. Engraved map with original hand-coloring. “Drawn & engraved by J. Archer, Pentonville, London”. Ref: Philips, Atlases #780-47.(Image 9 ½ x 11 ¼”)

This map shows Mexico with its provinces in contrasting colors and the Independent Republic of Texas – with its vast boundaries extending west to the Rio Grande, and north to the Arkansas River (into present-day Colorado).

Topographical features are shown and most cities, towns and waterways are identified. Indian tribes are located throughout the map.

The “American Fur Co. Depot” is located in present-day Salt Lake City (it dominated the fur trade of the central and western United States during the first third of the 19th century. Explorations by the firm's traders and trappers, directed chiefly from its office in St. Louis, did much to prepare the frontier for settlement).

A finely detailed and very attractive map published during the nine-year independent era of the Texas Republic.
