c 1847 "A New Map of Ohio" - Mitchell

$0.00

“A NEW MAP OF OHIO…” Philadelphia: S. Augustus Mitchell, 1847.  Engraved map with original hand coloring. (Image: 14 ¼ x 11 ½’’)

This detailed map depicts Ohio with its counties named and in contrasting colors. Topographical features are shown and many cities and towns are located. Various land, water, steamboat and rail routes are identified.

A chart along the top margin lists the steamboat routes from Cincinnati to Pittsburgh, New Orleans & from Cleveland to Buffalo, Detroit & Portsmouth. A chart along the bottom margin lists the profile of the Ohio Canal. Land distances are noted from town to town.

Particularly unusual:  A street plan for Cincinnati was intended to be placed in the lower right. However, only the key for locating places in the city was inserted – the street plan never made it!
