1776 Georgia One Quarter Spanish Milled Dollar

$0.00

Original currency issued by Georgia “according to Resolution of Congress”. Dated 1776.  Back is blank. (2 5/8 x 3 1/2'').

This note is in the fractional denomination of “One Quarter of a Spanish Milled Dollar, or the Value thereof”.

Signed by William Evans, Nehemiah Wade and Benjamin Andrew (Georgia delegate to the Continental Congress).

Georgia Revolutionary War currency is very scarce - All the Georgia revolutionary era emissions appear primitive because the official colony printer, James Johnston - who had printed Georgia currency since 1763, was a Tory and therefore his equipment was seized. Thereafter the shop was run by sympathetic but inexperienced printers. The number of notes issued is not known, due to the loss of official records burned when the British captured Savannah.

Presented in an archival 14 x 11'' mat
