This beautiful series was the result of the French Government-supported journeys of Michaux the Elder, of extended and toilsome researches by his son, and the tremendous artistic achievements of three eminent French artists: Pierre Joseph Redoute, his brother Henry Joseph Redoute and Pancrace Bessa.  A very fine American edition, from the original French copper plates, of the most important 19th century treatise on American trees.
