This view depicts the Capitol as it appeared near the mid 19th century.  Charles Bulfinch completed the Capitol in 1829 - “with a low, copper-covered wooden dome to shelter the rotunda linking the Senate with the House and designed small domes for each of the legislative chambers” (Ref:  Reps Washington on View, pp. 74-75).
