Handsome original engraved map with full original hand-coloring. Condition note: some repair and strengthening at centerfold. (Image: 17 1/2 x 10 1/2’’)

This detailed historical map shows the United States at a particularly interesting and rapidly changing period. The map was published in 1846 and shows the new State of Texas in its first full year of statehood and with the large boundaries prior to the Compromise of 1850 reduction. Indian Tribes are well located throughout the map.

The Nebraska Territory shown here would change a great deal - finally becoming part of Wyoming, the Dakotas, Montana and Nebraska.

A note appears in the region of the Black Hills (Nebraska Territory) stating that it contains a ''Valley through which a loaded wagon may pass'' The Oregon Territory includes present-day of Idaho, Washington and Oregon.

The Indian Territory is rarely seen in this configuration and includes part of present-day Kansas. Within Texas major cities & towns are identified with the population shown as only 200,000. A very unusual historical map!
