$0.00

“A NEW MAP OF THE WORLD on the Globular Projection.” Philadelphia:  Thomas, Cowperthwait & Co., c. 1850.  Fine engraved map with original hand coloring.(Image: 9 ½ x 13 ¼’’). Minor foxing and staining in image area as shown, some staining in lower margin away from image.

This very handsome map depicts the Western and Eastern Hemispheres with the continents in contrasting colors. Countries, major cities, deserts, islands and waterways are identified, and numerous exploratory routes are shown, including those by Cook, Clerke, and Gores.

An additional note provided by the Sandwich Islands reads: “Owhyhee, here Capt. Cook was killed by the natives 1779”.  A very attractive view of the world as it was known in the mid-19th century.
