This highly decorative 400 year old map depicts the Alpine Region bounded by Geneva, Grenoble, the Piemont and southern Switzerland, including Mont Blanc, St. Anton, Val D’Isre and the sites of other notable ski resorts near the French, Swiss and Italian borders. Topographical features are well noted and most cities, towns, waterways, mountains, forests and wagon routes are located. The map is further enhanced with two elaborate cartouches.

Jodocus Hondius (1563-1612) (Henrici´s brother) was the founder of the famous 17th century Dutch map publishing family. Jodocus, along with sons Jodocus II and Henricus, and son-in-law Jan Janssonius, was prominent in Dutch cartography and competed with the emerging Blaeu family map business.
