Original calligraphic manuscript of the Divan of Hafiz - collected poems of Muhammed Shamsuddin Hafiz (died c. 1388 A.D.) - one of the most celebrated writers of Persian lyrical poetry. (155x90 mm - 6 1/8 x 3 3/4'') 

Executed in Persia, c. 1666 AD (1062 AH)

178 leaves - Very fine calligraphy, in geometric patterns of fine Persian Ta’liq script on polished paper. Margins are ruled in blue, red, black and gold. Inner panels are ruled black with gold insets.  Elaborate illuminated initial heading. The title panel has been damaged and repaired. Generally clean with occasional smudges and stains and a few tears. The original binding has a gilded arabesque pattern on the exterior boards, and decorative insets and gilding on the red morocco inner covers.

This is an attractive example from one of the most beautiful and revered Persian literary works.
