“KENTUCKY” “TENNESSEE” Philadelphia: Henry B. Walker, c. 1890.  From Walker’s International Atlas. Original printed and hand-colored map. (Image: 15 ¾ x 22 ½ ’’) Centerfold as issued.

This very unusual map of Tennessee & Kentucky shows the entire network of railroads active by 1890. The list at the top identifies all  railroads, and every stop along the railway system is shown. Counties are named and in contrasting colors with topographical features depicted.  Many towns, cities, waterways, county seats, mills & Post Offices are identified. A very detailed map of the states as they began the 1890’s!

The railroad maps from Walker's Atlas are quite scarce - less often seen than the Rand McNally and Cram maps of the same vintage.
