$0.00

“…MAP OF TEXAS…” New York:  H. H. Lloyd & Co. for Warner & Beers, c. 1874.  Original hand-colored map. (Not listed in Day, Maps of Texas, or Taliaferro, Cartographic Sources in the Rosenberg Library).(Image: 13 ¼ c 16 ½’’)

This very historical map depicts Texas just nine years after the Civil War. Counties are named and in contrasting colors with many of the counties having the year they were established displayed.

Several land routes, including the U. S. Mail Route, Wagon Route and Proposed Southern Pacific Rail Road are shown.  Indian tribes are located throughout (Apaches, Comanches, Lipans…) with an additional note south of Presidio County in Mexico “Rocky Region Inhabited by Indians”.

The “Mormon Settlement” is also noted in Bexar County. Military Forts, wells, springs, rivers and mountains are also shown.

A highly informative and very scarce view of Texas as it was known in the 1870's!
