Very fine & beautifully engraved map with original outline color.  Engraved by G. W. Boynton (owner of an engraving company in Boston 1830’s - 40’s).

This detailed map depicts Kentucky with counties named and in outline color. Topographical features are shown, and major cities, towns, mountains, railroads and waterways are identified.

Kentucky was the first region west of the Allegheny Mountains to be settled by American pioneers. James Harrod established the first permanent settlement at Harrodsburg in 1774; the following year Daniel Boone, who had explored the area in 1767, blazed the Wilderness Trail and founded Boonesboro. An attractive and scarce view of the state in the 1830’s.
