Original incunabula leaf from the very scarce Bible in Latin (Biblia Latina) printed by Nicolaus Jenson in Venice in 1479. (330 x 230mm – 13 x 9’’)
“Nicolaus Jenson, a Frenchman, printed at Venice very many books famous for the beauty of their typography” (Reference: Darlow and Moule #6083). This leaf is from the second edition of Jenson’s Latin Bible, and only the fourth Bible printed in Venice. This extremely early printed leaf consists of text finely executed in two columns with 51 lines per column.

The two-line illuminated ‘’I’’ begins I Paralipomenon (King James I Chronicles) 13 :1 – 16 :36 : “Iniit…” (And David consulted with the captains of thousands, and of hundreds, and with all the commanders. And he said to all the assembly of Israel: If it please you; and if the words which I speak come from the Lord our God, let us send to the rest of our brethren into all the countries of Israel…and bring again the ark of our God to us…So David and all the ancients of Israel, and the captains over thousands, went to bring the ark of the covenant of the Lord our of the house of Obededom with joy…Praise ye the Lord, and call upon his name: make known his doings among the nations. Sing to him, yea, sing praises to him: and relate all his wondrous works. Praise ye his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice, that seek the Lord.
